The Director

A graduate of Edinburgh University, Gregor Nicholson has a wealth of high-level experience in sports administration and governance.

He formed NICHOLSON Management and Compliance Services in Sport in January 2009 after deciding to leave the Scottish Rugby Union after 16 years of dedicated service at Murrayfield. During this time he put the SRU at the forefront of anti-doping best practice. Latterly he re-wrote the SRU’s anti-doping regulations to ensure compliance with the new World Anti-Doping Code 2009 and the International Rugby Board’s (IRB’s) regulations.

Following the advent of professionalism in Rugby Union in 1995, and long before the World Anti-Doping Agency or WAD Code had been established, Gregor had urged the IRB, through its then Chairman, Vernon Pugh, to take a more active role in anti-doping. He was invited to be an inaugural member of the IRB’s Anti-Doping Advisory Committee when it was established in 1999 and remains an independent member of the Committee to this day.

He has been a regular member of IRB Judicial Committees and Review Panels for international doping cases, a role he has also performed for the Six Nations and European Rugby Cup.

His wide-ranging remit with the SRU also included

He has also served on various Six Nations, European Rugby Cup and Celtic League working groups and sub-committees.

As the sole management level staff member for athletics in Scotland from 1987 to 1993, Gregor helped steer four separate governing bodies through the historical changes which brought into being a single governing body for the sport in Scotland – the Scottish Athletics Federation (now Scottish Athletics Ltd).
